About us
Our story
Spice Street Pav Bhaji was founded by Pramoda Ramachandra to bring the authentic, nostalgic flavors of Mumbai's late-night street food staple—pav bhaji—to the Bay Area. Every dish is made with traditional methods and high-quality ingredients, the same bold flavors you'd find on the streets of India.
Meet the founder
Pramoda Ramachandra is a first-time restaurateur with a strong professional background in healthcare. Before entering the food industry, she built successful careers as a dietitian and hospital administrator. That experience informs Spice Street's focus on quality, balance, and care in every plate we serve.
Driven by a passion to make the street food from her childhood accessible to the Bay Area, she opened the first Pav Bhaji Hut franchise in Sunnyvale. The business later evolved and rebranded into Spice Street, staying true to the same mission: authentic Indian street food, made the right way.

Our commitment to authenticity
Spice Street is known for its commitment to authenticity. That commitment is reflected in three concrete choices:
- The tawa. We imported a traditional, custom-designed 45-inch, 600-lb tawa from Mumbai, India, the same type of equipment used for authentic street-side pav bhaji. It's the foundation of our flavor and texture.
- Certification. We spent over a year and significant resources to secure NSF certification for our equipment in the U.S., so we could meet American safety and compliance standards without compromising on how we cook.
- Sustainability. We use 100% eco-friendly packaging made from wheat straw and bagasse—better for the planet and aligned with the values of our community.
The mission: authentic Indian street food
Pramoda's goal for Spice Street is to recreate the authentic, nostalgic flavors of Indian street food, be it Mumbai or Bangalore, Mysore, or any other city in India, using traditional methods and high-quality ingredients. That means pav bhaji, vada pav, masala dosai, madduru vade, masala chai, filter coffee and more - made fresh, the right way.
Whether you visit our Sunnyvale restaurant or catch us at our food truck we are here to bring you a true taste of Indian street food with the authority and authenticity that come from our founder's story and our investment in the right equipment, certification, and commitment to quality and sustainability.

Vasavada's to-go order consists of regular pav bhaji, no cheese, and extra bread. The dish comes from Mumbai and, to Vasavada, it draws up memories of Juhu Beach, where it's easy to find a vendor selling the super-popular street food dish to beachgoers who enjoy it with toes in the sand.
